I am a student at Riehmond Hill High School in the borough of Queens, L.I. N.Y. I am in my third term and have Public Speak ing as a major subject. As a pa.rt of the final mark we were all asked to give a speech to convince. I decided that myself and two other boys would try.. to convince the class that Flying Saucers re rea.l and that they are interplanet ry. We thought this would be easy. But we soon .found out that at least three quarters of the class did not beli~ve us. Two very smart students in this class have already seen a U.F.O. Our speeches must have been good since my marlr was 99, the two other boys marks were 97, and 90. We asked those who did not be lieve u~ what proof we could gj_ve them. They said they wanted tangible proor. We showed them pictures of U.F.O.s that George Adamski took at Palomar Observat-, ory. I would like to know if you have any in.forma.tion that is in leaflet orm that I could b:uy-1~·:··· Also if you have any slide pictures I could by that we be: of some use to ah~w to the class. If you have any information cone rning

They (the objects) appear to be a light source rather that the Navy analysis made these points: experts found the Navy's evaluation methods faulty. This is contrary to TRUE Magazine, Capt. Edward J. Ruppelt, USAER, atates that photographic Officer Delbert C, Newhouse, July 2, 1952, In the May, 1954 issue of Unidentified Flying Objects, and its opinions in certain cases.I In the past few months, I have received conflicting statements Attention: Lt.Cdr.Erank Thomas, ONR Washington 25, D.c. Source page 35
Source text · mention onlyPage 2, letter dated Dec. 2, 1954, to the Chief of the 0ffice of Naval Research, attention of Lt. Cdr. Frank Thomaa. COPE The resolution power of the lens is insufficient to identify objects of such dimensions if in excess of five miles. If the distance is assumed to average velocity would be 653.5.mph; 1ikewise, at 2 miles distance the average speed would be 326.75 mph, and at 7 miles, 980.25 mph F. Generally, the movement of the individual object in flight appears to follow an ellipitical or circular pattern within the group. G. It cannot be determined what the objects are. However, there are a few things which it is believed they are not: 1.Balloons - with the telephoto lens used, weather balloons within five miles distance could have been identified. The speeds caleulated for the objects if only 2 miles away of 326.75 mph 1s in exeess of any wind blowm balloons. 2.Aircraft - within a five mile range an aircraft of 40 foot wing span could be identified clearly. At the time the photographs speeds, and certainly not capable of such maneuvers at those speeds. 3. Birds - these objects appear to be a light source rather than reflecting light, but should they be only reflecting light no bird is sufficiently reflective to cause the film to react as strongly as it has done. (This ends the material which, I umderstand, constitutes the main points of the official Navy analysis by the U. S. Navy Photo Interpretation Center, Washington,D. C.) I should like to know whether the points 1isted above are in accordance with the Navy analysis, and also any other information which can be given me in regard to the Tremonton, Utah picutres. I should like to kmow whether Warrant Officer Newhouse vas ever given back the original of this film, whether he received a copy of the Navy analysis and whether he is permitted to discuss the pictures with the press, or to correspond in regard to them. 2. In 1951, Dr. Urner Liddel, of ONR, was quoted in L00K Magazine and elsewhere as stating that "here is not a single reliable report (of UFOs or Flying Saucers) which is not attributable to the Air Force that this was not correct, though they had carefully matched the course. and position of cosmic-ray balloons vith Uro sighting reports In view of this, does the Navy agree with Dr. Liddel's l95l statement? If so, why is the Navy taking part in the continued investigation of Unidentified Flying Objects. NW.91198 Dodld.34745775

Dear Gen.Samford: I have received from Maj. Gen. Joe W. Kelly, Director of Legislative Liaison, U.S.A.F., a copy of the October, l954, "U.S.Air Force Summary of Events and Information Concomming the Unidentified Flying Objeot Program." I would appreciate receiving answers to two questions con- cerming this fact sheet".Your office is the only source for these answers, since the Air Technical Intelligence Center is "eharged only with the investigation" and cannot give out results, while the Air Force Press Desk in the Office of Publie Informathon can supply "only that information which is readily available" in that office. [2] The fact sheet, at the bottom of page 2, states that one of the explanations of knowm types of visual sightings is: "6. Brilliant flashing lights that sometimes appear red and white in color have been reported by observers. This type lines and military aireraft.... My question is:In which specific cases did this lighting system the explanation in the following cases: Feb. 15, 1953, at St. Matthews, S.0., reported to Shaw AFB. Source text · mention only[2] The fact sheet, at the bottom of page 3, statea: The Air Force would like to state that no evidence has been received which would tend to indicate that the United States is being observed by machines from outer space or a foreig government. In bharp contrast to this, the Air Force press release of August 1952, based on the minutes of your press conference at the Pentagon on July 29,1952,stated: "The Air Force has stated in the past, and reaffirms at the present time, that these umidentified aerial phenomena are not a secret weapon, missile, or aireraft, developed by the United States. None of the three military departments nor any other agency in the government is conducting experiments, classified or otherwise, with flying objeots which could be a basis for the reported phenomena. As far as is lmowm there is nothing in them that is associated with material or vehicles that are directedl against the United States, from another country or from other planets." My question to you now is: What is the present official position of the U.S. Air Force on the of the important cases, merely secret aircraft, missiles, and weapons, under development or operational use by the United States Government and its agencies? quoted above on this page, that the Air Force no longer denieg that if possible, an explicit statement to this effeot, rather than relying on the implication contained in the omitted sentences. (It is hardly necessary to remind you that the photograph on page 163 of 0PNAV P-5l-ll0, 0ct.1, 1952, gives the direct lie to the Air Force press release of August 1952, quoted above. The blame for since you yourself very skilfully avoided any direct statements at that press conference. Your statement "We have nothing that has no in the archives.) I would very mueh appreciate receiving whatever answer you care to make to the two questions propounded in this letter. It is my is there a person who has the cognizance to answer these questions, and I respectfully request that the answer come from your offiee. I am vritillg you to teatif;r to the existence of the JIQ"Sterious flying saucers. I am a Mexican, 37 years old and in full possession of my mental faculties. I am married, and the father of a large family- or 6 girls and 3 boys. More than two years ago, I personally saw a tlying saucer. It happened one da7 when I came from Mexicali im r,q •pick-up•, at the point called Cerro Prietolll This craft came in. my direction, and I was able to get a f\ll.1 view of its design, since I .s,aw the nying saucer flying at an altitude of about 150 meters, at about 5 miles an hour, for about 150 meters. This ~appened one morning about 9 A..M. So that your government ~ be interested, I will describe a emall part to you: It was about 12 feet in diameter and the weight about 3 tons, which defies gravity. I am telling you this because vb.en. I saw it, it was practic&ll.710 meters from the top of Cerro Prieto, suspended in mid-air. I would appreciate yaur paying me a reward of $20,000 upon describing its design, which is authentic and genuine. I believe this intormation 1s worth much more, because it may be a secret weapon ot some enemy aation. Air Force Intelligence c/o Project Bluebook The Pentagon Washington, D. c. Gentlmens My subject is 1 Flying Saucers•. I will keep my letter short as I am aware that your time is very important. In the August issue of' Fate Magazine, there is an article titled •Are The Saucers Mad.e On Earth?" by a James W. Moseley. In this article Mr. Moseley contends that the Saucers are made on earth, and in this country. I have but one question to ask you. If' Mr. Moseley is right then this means that the Air Force is 1'1.ring it's test missiles, or whatever they are, over major American cities, into the airways of' the major airlines, with no regard to the hazard placed over the heads of' millions of' Americans. I personally, have great respect f'or the U~ s. Air Force and the men who run it. I cannot make myself belieTe that the Personal at the top have all lost their marbles, and allow such a thing to ha.ppen. Thousands et,peop1e will read that article, and thousands will be a.sking themselves th.e same question which I have asked you. Such an article is a disgrace to our Air Force and all o~ it's members. This Moseley should be slapped down publically. President

Fawcett Books October 23rd,1955 Contributor to N.Y.Times Sunday Magazine and Be Review Captain C.A. Hardim AFOIN-4E-4ATIC TheAtlanticMonthly WPAFB,Ohio Harper's Dear Captain Hardim, Virginia Quarterly I am writing to you at the suggestion of two persons: Captain Adventure in the Pentagon, and Lew Zarem, Chief of Publie Information at WADC. After speaking with both of these men, tley felt Current History that you might be amenable to an interview. Esquire At present, with the cooperation of USAF Hg and ARDC Hq; I am working on a book devoted to various aspects of air researeh and development. Inoluded among the chapters will be one Business Week on "flying saucere." However,I should like to enphasize that this chapter will not in any way play up to the craokpot fringe of enthusiasts nor will it attempt, as so many other writere do, to imply that Air Force Intelligence is trying to hide things from the general publie. In fact, the major aim of my chapter vill be quite the opposite: I want to give an honest human-interest report on how harraesing and even nerve-wracking the "saucer" situation has been to personnel of the Air Porce, who are only trying their darndest to do an honest job of protecting the American people by keeping a close watch on the skies of the United States. Aetually, I would like to present the atory in human terms such as this: little anecdotes that may have happened to you and other men on the project at WFArB--false reports, false condemnations even false accusations by the press; the scientific teohnigues or systems you use to evaluate reports of saucers"; your attitudes toward the overabundanoe of irresponsible writers (without naming them, of course) who cause you unnecessary trouble and take up valuable time by inspiring hysterieal people throughout the U.S. to bother you, etc. T77 I can promise you three things: l. the story will be NW91198Docld:34745775 Page218
