Farmington, New Mexico formation sighting

Record summary

Hundreds of residents in Farmington reported seeing formations of bright or metallic objects moving over the town during a period of heightened flying-saucer attention. Newspaper accounts and later UFO literature often describe the event as an “armada,” though the number, shape, and behavior of the objects vary by source. The case matters for examining mass reports, rumor transmission, and the influence of contemporary media language. It is uncertain how many observers independently saw the same phenomenon and whether conventional aircraft, balloons, birds, or other causes were considered at the time.
