The 1976 Tehran UFO Incident

Record summary

Iranian Air Force personnel reported unusual lights over Tehran, and two F-4 Phantom aircraft were reportedly dispatched from Mehrabad. The case became prominent in UFO literature because the report includes radar observations, attempted interception, and alleged instrument problems. It is useful for comparing how Cold War military testimony becomes modern legend, especially when translated and repeatedly retold by ufologists. The event itself is documented in declassified or reproduced military reporting, but the details and interpretation remain disputed, with conventional explanations and transmission errors requiring examination.
