USS Russell pyramid-shaped objects

Record summary

Night-vision footage associated with the USS Russell shows apparent triangular or pyramid-shaped lights during the 2019 Southern California naval incidents. The images became prominent after unauthorized publication and were later acknowledged as genuine Navy imagery, though authenticity of footage does not establish an unknown craft. Analysts proposed that optical blooming, out-of-focus lights, and ordinary aircraft or drones could create the reported shapes. The episode is a useful case for studying the gap between authentic sensor material and uncertain object identification, especially when operational context is withheld.
