The 1909 Cardiff and Welsh Airship Reports

Record summary

Several Welsh reports during the 1909 airship scare described lights or a dirigible-like craft moving over towns and countryside. Cardiff and other localities appeared in contemporary newspaper coverage, which linked the reports to the broader British fear of secret foreign airships. The material matters because it permits comparison between local testimony and national press framing. It should be treated as a cluster of historical claims rather than evidence of a single vehicle. Verification requires consulting Welsh newspapers and distinguishing original wording, editorial embellishment and later ufological retellings.
