Record summary
Excavations at Gua Cha in the 1950s documented burials, stone tools, shell ornaments and other evidence of prehistoric occupation in the Malay Peninsula. The site was subsequently used in discussions of Hoabinhian technology, hunter-gatherer lifeways and possible transitions toward later farming communities. Because early Southeast Asian sequences were often organized through broad cultural labels, Gua Cha is useful for examining how typology and diffusion models shaped interpretation. The chronology and cultural continuity proposed in early reports should be checked against later stratigraphic and dating studies.
