Colares UFO Flap

Record summary

Residents around Colares reported luminous objects, alleged beam-like attacks and physical symptoms during a prolonged 1977–78 wave. Brazilian Air Force personnel conducted Operation Prato and collected interviews, sketches and other material, although the surviving documentation and its interpretation remain contested. The lead matters because it combines mass reports, military investigation, medical claims and local folklore in a remote coastal setting. Researchers must distinguish documented military activity from later claims about injuries, craft occupants and recovered technological evidence.
