Record summary
Hominin teeth and associated Paleolithic materials from Dingcun were found and investigated during the 1950s, producing the designation Dingcun Man. The site became important in Chinese accounts of archaic human evolution and in arguments about continuity between earlier Homo erectus populations and later humans. Its archaeological value extends beyond the fossils because the stratified terrace deposits were used to discuss tool industries and environmental change. Exact chronology, specimen attribution and the relationship between the fossil and artifact layers require checking against excavation reports and later reassessments.
