Record summary
Excavations at Ngandong on the Solo River recovered a group of Homo erectus crania that became known as Solo Man. Their geological age has been debated extensively, with older work assigning them great antiquity and later dating studies placing the deposits substantially later than some classic estimates. The material has been used in discussions of regional evolutionary persistence, Late Pleistocene environments, and possible population interaction. It is a strong comparison lead because the fossils are real, while their exact age, depositional history, and evolutionary significance remain contested.
