Record summary
Santo Daime emerged around Raimundo Irineu Serra in Acre and developed ritual use of ayahuasca, called Daime, within Christian, Indigenous, Afro-Brazilian, and esoteric frameworks. Accounts of visions, healing, spiritual travel, possession, and moral transformation make the movement relevant to comparative consciousness research. Céu do Mapiá became a prominent later center, while Alto Santo represents another important lineage. Researchers must distinguish doctrine, participant reports, legal history, ethnography, and outsider interpretations; the movement’s experiences are not automatically evidence of paranormal perception.
