The Westall UFO encounter’s 1990s–2000s revival

Record summary

The 1966 Westall school incident, involving students and staff who reportedly observed an unusual object near Westall High School, was revisited through Australian UFO research, local memory and media during the 1990s and 2000s. It matters as a study of how a decades-old place-based report acquires new witnesses, interpretations and documentary claims. The original event predates the requested period, so the relevant unit is its later investigation and transmission. Researchers should compare contemporaneous newspaper coverage with retrospective interviews and avoid treating later additions as contemporaneous evidence.
