Record summary
Human cranial and postcranial remains from Tam Pà Ling Cave have been used to argue for an early presence of Homo sapiens in mainland Southeast Asia, with later work refining the site’s chronology and depositional history. The lead is useful for comparing dispersal routes through southern China, mainland Southeast Asia and island regions, especially where tropical preservation is poor. Interpretation is complicated by limited excavation, difficult direct dating and questions about sediment movement. The assemblage does not automatically document a continuous occupation or a single migration wave.
