Lake Van Monster (Van Gölü Canavarı) reports

Record summary

The Lake Van monster is a recurring Turkish cryptid report associated with alleged large dark forms, wakes, and video footage on Lake Van. Local municipalities, journalists, and university-affiliated observers have periodically discussed or investigated the claims, especially around Van and Tatvan. The case matters for comparison because it combines tourism, regional folklore, eyewitness testimony, and ambiguous low-resolution imagery. Uncertainty is substantial: publicly circulated footage is difficult to authenticate, independent observation is limited, and ordinary explanations such as boats, waves, fish, or floating debris remain plausible.
