The Ghost of the Melbourne Club

Record summary

The Melbourne Club and other older Melbourne clubs have been associated with stories of deceased members appearing or being sensed in their historic premises. If a period account can be located, this would broaden comparison beyond public heritage sites to socially exclusive buildings where oral transmission is controlled by staff and members. The institution is identifiable, but the model’s recollection of specific apparition details is weak. Researchers should seek memoirs, club histories, and newspapers for a named figure and date, avoiding assumptions that all later Melbourne-club ghost stories refer to the same entity.
