Record summary
Jain epistemology describes progressively refined forms of knowledge, including avadhi jñāna, or clairvoyant knowledge of material things, and manaḥparyāya jñāna, knowledge of the mental states of others. Kevala jñāna represents perfected omniscience attained by a liberated being. These are useful comparative leads because they place purported psi-like abilities within an ethical, ascetic and soteriological system rather than treating them as isolated experiments. Their historical status is textual and doctrinal; the chronology, sectarian transmission and literal interpretation of the categories require careful study.
