Record summary
After the last known thylacine died at Hobart Zoo in 1936, Tasmanians and visitors continued to report animals they believed resembled the striped marsupial. Reports from 1947–1969 form a clearly identifiable post-extinction corpus and are important for studying persistence of expectation, misidentification, and the evidentiary limits of eyewitness testimony. Individual reports differ in quality, and some may concern dogs, quolls, livestock, or visual artifacts. Archival work should identify the witness, date, habitat, and whether a specimen, photograph, track, or independent observer was involved.
