Record summary

What happened Residents around Stephenville and Dublin reported brilliant lights, some in formation and some associated with a very large silent object. Several witnesses said military jets pursued the lights. The U.S. Air Force first said no relevant training occurred, then corrected the statement and acknowledged that F-16s were operating in the area. Civilian analysts later examined FAA radar data and argued that an unidentified track approached restricted airspace, while critics disputed whether the returns belonged to one unusual object. The corrected military statement explains some lights and jet noise but does not resolve every witness account. Evidence Numerous civilian reports, acknowledged military training, FAA radar data obtained by researchers and contemporary media interviews. Explanations considered Military aircraft and flares, civilian aircraft, bright stars, meteors and misinterpretation during a highly publicized wave are the main alternatives. What remains uncertain Radar analyses depend on associating intermittent returns with visual reports separated in time and location. Witness descriptions ranged from points of light to a huge structured craft and may not share one cause. Primary source Stephenville, Texas UFO sightings — Wikipedia
