Record summary

What happened Two pilots and a military-officer passenger aboard a Mid-Continent Airlines DC-3 reported a large straight-winged aircraft-like object passing close, then manoeuvring more sharply than a B-29. They saw no markings or conventional engine detail. The report entered early Air Force UFO files because experienced observers described something aircraft-like but unfamiliar. Evidence Three aircraft occupants supplied a prompt account from a known flight. Explanations considered A conventional aircraft misjudged in darkness, an experimental type, or geometry and closure-rate errors are possible. What remains uncertain No radar, photograph or independent ground observation established size, range or performance. Primary source Sioux City mystery-plane encounter — Wikipedia
