Record summary

What happened Members of the Sutton and Taylor families told police that small luminous-eyed figures repeatedly approached their farmhouse after one man saw a bright object descend nearby. The occupants fired rifles and a shotgun through windows and doors, saying the figures floated or recoiled without apparent injury. Police found extensive gunfire evidence but no bodies, blood or clear tracks, and the figures were gone when officers searched the property. Later reconstructions proposed great horned owls, whose reflective eyes, ear tufts and defensive hovering could appear humanoid in poor light, combined with heightened fear and repeated firing. Evidence Statements from several related witnesses, a prompt police response and physical evidence of weapons being fired. No extraordinary material or independently photographed figure was found. Explanations considered Owls, meteors and escalating group misperception form the principal conventional account. Deliberate hoax has also been alleged, but the family's distress and police contact do not by themselves prove either interpretation. What remains uncertain All close observations came from one social group under stress at night. Descriptions were not perfectly consistent and later artwork standardized the beings' appearance.
