Record summary

What happened Official Joseon records describe a loud, luminous phenomenon seen from several districts, variously compared with a washbowl, halo, fire or divided object. The geographically separated reports make the event useful for historical comparison, but translations differ and the language belongs to premodern natural-omen reporting. Evidence Court annals preserve reports from multiple locations on the same day. Explanations considered A bright meteor with sonic effects, bolide fragmentation or atmospheric display can account for the distributed observations. What remains uncertain Timings and descriptions are not precise enough to determine whether every district saw the same phenomenon. Primary source 1609 Korean sky-turmoil reports — Wikipedia
