Record summary

What happened A U.S. Customs and Border Protection aircraft recorded infrared video of a small object or objects near Aguadilla airport. Because the image seemed to cross the coastline, enter the water and divide, the clip was widely presented as evidence of a fast transmedium vehicle. AARO later analyzed the platform track, wind, terrain and thermal imagery. It concluded with high confidence that the objects did not display anomalous speed or transmedium behavior and with moderate confidence that two objects, likely sky lanterns, drifted near wind speed. Apparent splitting resulted when the two closely spaced sources became separately visible, while apparent water entry came from line of sight and sensor limitations. Evidence A long government thermal video, aircraft telemetry, weather data and a published AARO case-resolution analysis. Explanations considered AARO's leading assessment is two sky lanterns drifting with the wind. Parallax, sensor resolution and occlusion explain the apparent high speed, multiplication and water entry. What remains uncertain The exact objects were not recovered, so the sky-lantern identification is assessed rather than physically confirmed. The video alone does not supply intuitive range and speed cues. Primary source AARO Puerto Rico UAP Case Resolution — All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office
